whats difference if someone spits on the sidewalk or holds it in until snot runs from their nose and drips on sidewalk anyways ? maybe even have snot drip EVERYWHERE because person cannot spit ?why not praise their differences and show some pity ? really? praise people for being transgender or gay but the guy/gal with medical difficulties should pay ? c,mon
That’s the worst ever that law should be forever
After living in Minneapolis, MN, and attending the University-Twin Cities and being recently cited for this law I find it to be completely ridiculous. I was biking to class in a bike lane on the street while prescribed medication to decongest. It was a mere lung issue with from allergies and was given a hefty citation, however, after fighting in court and taking much of my personal time to do so, was excused of the citation. The city of Minneapolis says they were “doing the right thing.” However, I beg to differ, and say they were “bored.” With University crime escalating I say place your resources where they may actually be needed.
I beg to differ, today a nasty little teen girl spit a huge wad of spit and n front of our walkway. I asked her to go where she lives and spit in front of there. It wad disgusting. The next person coming to my home would have stepped in it and tracked it in our home. It is not victimless. It is classless, heathen behavior to spit in a well traveled area. Spit in the street, sewer, a napkin, not in front of an occupied residential home.v Would you like to walk out and step in a huge wad of spit?
Oh please. You seriously think a law against spitting is going to save your child from contra
acting an illness? Why not just place your child inside a sealed air bubble and let them die from lack of human interaction.
We are mammals and as such we need human touch and community in order to survive much less thrive.
Whenever anyone uses the “save the children” card I know they don’t have truthful scientific based evidence (without an agenda) with which to back their justifications with.
Actually I’m almost 99% sure that the law was made in 1918 during the Spanish flu epidemic. The deadly virus was highly contagious and killed 5% of the worlds population. Thus the U.S. Made spitting and coughing in public illegal in certain areas of the country. Then the law just came to pass however never actually lifted.
I have been living in Georgia for about six years and it seems like in Georgia everyone chews tobacco and is continously spitting anywhere they choose, i guess it must be an accepted tradition in this part of the country.
Spitting should be illegal, for the reason that it spreads disease!
Actually its illegal because people with Tuberculosis who may not know it, if they spit on ground and it dries up, many people could be at risk. And I know that it seems dumb especially if you don’t have the disease but its there to protect
Just a prime example of a dumb law not being enforced. It just proves not even the police have to enforce laws that are not just. So why cant we do this with cannabis?

Spitting on the sidewalk is not a stupid law. If you consider the fact that little children play on the sidewalks. A little child needs to be disinfected because some pig went and spit on the sidewalk. A law that needs to be reinstated is the law that if you are caught horse stealing or cattle rustling you are hung from the nearest tree.
This is one of the best old dumb laws. I hope that it stays on the books.
