If they get rid of this, nobody would make you work sunday. It’s not like if this was repealed, all of a sudden there would be a BIG FINE for NOT selling cars on sunday. Just put up a damn ‘closed’ sign. Go home to your family, and enjoy your day off. Nothing is any different.
And don’t tell me ‘well they’d go to the competition’ – If that’s your logic, then stop closing your doors at 3 PM and stay open all night. It’s legal to sell a car at 11 PM, but you’re not open anywhere near then.
For all of us that work jobs that don’t let us get out between the hours of 10 and 3 (seriously, that’s the average dealership hours around here) the weekends are the only times we have to buy cars, and nobody buying a car is going to only spend one limited day searching.
This is one of the dumbest things i’ve ever heard of.
They are called “Blue Laws”, the same laws that prohibited selling liquor on Sundays which was lifted but Colorado is one of a few states that still has the automobile “Blue Law”. These laws were dated back to the Puritans who imposed the bans for religious reasons. Some laws were kept in modern times for family togetherness.
I used to work at a Chevy dealership as a Corvette specialist. As stupid as this sounds…this law is true and anyone caught attempting to even give information about cars on sunday can be charged with a $50,000 fine and even imprisonment.

Sure it’s nice for car dealers to have a day off, but it sure as hell is annoying when everybody is buying a car Saturday because they work all week!
Completely stupid.

I work for a dealership here in denver and we love this law because it gives us a day off, if not we would have to work 7 days per week year round.
